Like a Postcard from the Florida Keys

Driving from Miami to our ultimate destination, west of Key West, we stopped on our way at the Post Card Inn. We were a bit saddened when we realised that we had booked an hotel on Islamorada Key instead of Marathon Key as we had searched for on the booking website. We ended up 42 km farther from Key West than we would have liked.

Do not disturb at the Postcard Inn

The disappointment did not last long, just the time for us to open the door of our room and discover the fun and beautiful décor. The hotel had just been renovated and there was a lot of attention paid to the branding, right down to the do not disturb signs.

I loved the complimentary postcards we had in our room, it’s the first time ever that I have considered sending one of those hotel postcards!

The full name of this hotel is the Postcard Inn Beach Resort & Marina, I enjoyed the resort aspect of the hotel. It meant that we had everything that we needed at our disposal: wifi, restaurants, bars, stores, computers, entertainment, chairs …

The Florida Keys are not renown for their beaches as the water is not deep it becomes very hot in the summer, which is great for sea-weeds but not for swimmers. Thus, we did not spend much time at the hotel’s beach. I preferred swimming in the pools, they were cooler and barracuda-free.

We spent the evening at the Raw Bar to eat and drink their world-famous rum runners, an iced rhum cocktail. The menu is mostly sandwiches which is great because it’s the only thing I could make my-self swallow in the August heat.

Eventhough Islamorada was farther from Key West than Marathon Key, it has allowed us to discover the John Pennekamp Stante Park on Key Largo or the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center on Tavernier Key.

At least at night we could drive with the top down!

Review of the Postcard Inn at Islamorada Key

+ Beautiful setting and nice rooms

+ The staff was welcoming

+ Two pools, one being quieter

+ Small attentions like free lemonade or a pac-man arcade

+ Some rooms have kitchenettes and the hotel allows pets

– Umbrella rental was excessively expensive

– The bathrooms seemed outdated compared to the rooms

– At 130 km from Key West, you have to get up early to be in Key West at 7:00 AM
